Something very unique about Jessica's book is that it's one of the few books from the perspective of someone with selective mutism, rather than a professional handbook or a story by a parent (which are also good reads, by the way). It was surely that decision that committed hundreds of thousands to the misery of a battle in mud and to the deaths of many for a questionable tactical objective of slightly higher ground, and remains one of the primary points of criticism of Haig's command.
